| We'll pitch tents, explore the Nature Center at night, roast marshmallows over a campfire, and enjoy other activities the next morning. Though the plan is to camp outdoors, the Visitor Center is available as an indoor location in case of inclement weather. Saturday evening snacks and breakfast on Sunday will be provided. A supply list will be e-mailed one week prior. Ages 8-11. Event runs from 9/11 at 6:30 PM to 9/12 at 10 AM. |

| We will review important outdoor fire safety,then learn about the different types of firewood and discover how to build a never-fail, A-frame fire. Everyone will have an opportunity to build, light, and tend a fire before safely extinguishing the flames. The workshop will conclude with a marshmallow roast. | Fall and winter are the seasons of choice for trimming shrubs, trees, and other perennials. Steve Ames, Landscape Architect for the Skokie Park District, will review different pruning tools and techniques. Learn how to avoid damage and disease while pruning and how to promote vigorous new growth on your plants next spring. Bring work gloves and pruning shears for hands-on experience, and dress to spend some time outdoors. Ages 18+. 9:30 - 11:30 AM. |

| Immerse yourself in a two-day watercolor painting workshop on the grounds of Emily Oaks. Students will create transparent watercolor compositions, using the natural world as inspiration. Some drawing and painting experience helpful. Instructor Michelle Kogan is a painter with training from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. | Goose Lake Prairie State Natural Area contains the largest stand of tallgrass prairie remaining in Illinois. Adjacent to Heidecke Lake Fish and Wildlife Area, Goose Lake Prairie encompasses 2,537 acres of grasslands, wetlands, and reclaimed strip mines. Plan on rambing 3-4 miles at a leisurely pace, enjoying the prairie sights along the way. Bring a sack lunch and water bottle, and wear good hiking shoes. Transportation by van provided. Ages 18+. 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. |
