In 1964 a $2,000,000 bond referendum was passed, and along with a $6,000,000
Housing and Urban Development grant the District was able to purchase and
develop ten new parks, including Walter Lauth Park. Mr. Lauth served the
District as a commissioner from 1946 to 1963. This 2.9-acre park located just
north of Oakton Street was redeveloped in 1991 including a new playground,
courts, diamond and landscaping improvements. Cost of redevelopment was
$128,000. Additional improvements to the playground and basketball courts were
made in 1997.
