This lovely wooded 5.0-acre park was purchased as a result of a referendum
passed in 1955. This eastern half of the park is filled with mixture of mature
white, black and red oaks. Lockwood Park was redeveloped in 1993-94 at a cost of
$268,000. Redevelopment included grading and drainage improvements, new
playground, picnic tables, benches, trash receptacles, basketball outfits and
tennis posts and nets, new drinking fountains, relocated and reconstructed ball
diamond, resurfaced and color coated basketball courts and tennis courts and
replaced tennis fencing. Landscape improvements included trees, shrubs and
sodding. In 1996 the Village of Skokie constructed a large concrete underground
storage tank in the outfield area of the ball diamond to help with local
flooding concerns. With the large stand of oaks and a beautiful playground, this
is one of the most picturesque parks in Skokie.
