In 1964 a $2,000,000 bond referendum was passed, and along with a $6,000,000 Housing and Urban Development grant the District was able to purchase and develop ten new parks, including Henry O. Gleiss Park. The park was at one time a mobile home court, and now is home to many of the larger trees in the District. The park is named after Henry O. Gleiss, who served the District as commissioner from 1949 through 1967. The 4.4-acre park was redeveloped in 1993 for $229,000 and now includes a beautiful large playground as well as tennis courts, a basketball court and significant open space for the northern part of the village.
