This odd shaped 5-acre parcel bounded by
Gross Point Road on the east was purchased as part of a 1955
referendum, which resulted in 17 sites being added to the District?s
park system. Gross Point Park was redeveloped in 1993 for a cost of
redevelopment was $194,000. Redevelopment included a new playground,
drainage improvements, resurfaced basketball court, new picnic tables,
benches, trash receptacles, and other site amenities, walks including
perimeter walk, and drinking fountain. A parking lot was constructed on
the east end of the park. During the same period the Village of Skokie
constructed a huge underground concrete storage vault under the ball
field area. This vault holds storm water during major storm events, and
helps control flood damage in the area. In 1995 the park shelter was
reconstructed at a cost of $148,000.
