Scott Hamilton to headline Superstars on Ice
(Skokie, IL - 3/23/10) Imagine the Rolling Stones playing at a downtown Skokie pub. It would seem to be about as likely as Olympic skating legend Scott Hamilton — and a host of other international figure skating stars — putting on a show at the local 625-seat ice arena.
On May 18 & 19 at 7 p.m., that is exactly what will happen.
For two nights only, the Skokie Park District will roll out the red carpet for Hamilton — a four-time national and world champion — and the 1984 Olympic gold medalist.
The show will also feature world champion Kimmie Meissner, three-time Olympian and eight-time British champion Steven Cousins, Olympian and Canadian champion Emanuel Sandhu, world team members Ashley Wagner, Ryan Bradley, Brandon Mroz, Adam Rippon and Dan Hollander, nationally-ranked skaters Alexe Gilles and Christina Gao, two-time U.S. Championship competitor Blake Rosenthal and U.S. Junior Men’s Champion Jason Brown.
Seating capacity at The Skatium Ice Arena is 650, offering a rare small-venue look at some of the world’s biggest names in figure skating. The shows will also offer an autograph and photo session with the stars for every ticket holder.
Limited $70 tickets are still available. Call (847) 674-1510 for purchase.
Now semi-retired, Hamilton is considered one of figure skating’s living legends. He rarely makes appearances, having retired from his ‘Stars on Ice’ tour in 2001.
Since 2003, Skokie's Superstars on Ice has featured world champions and Olympians such as Sasha Cohen, Kurt Browning, Todd Eldredge, Yuka Sato, Evan Lysacek, Kimmie Meisner, Alyssa Cyzsny, Paul Wylie, Elia Kulik, Tanith Belbin, Johnny Weir and Irina Slutskaya.
The Skokie Park District’s Skatium Ice Arena is located at 9300 Weber Park Pl., in Skokie, just south of Old Orchard Mall on Gross Point Road.
