Oakton gets electronic playground
            — old equipment off to Armenia

(November 3, 2009) The Skokie Park District’s Oakton Park playground will be replaced over the next few months with a new state-of-the-art electronic NEOS play system, as well as new animal spring toys, climbing poles, tubes, a variety of slides, and swing sets.

The park’s old structures will be shipped overseas, where the refurbished equipment will be installed in several underprivileged areas of Armenia. Photos will be taken when the children there experience a playground for the first time.

Oakton Park’s new NEOS system — manufactured by Playworld Systems — is an electronic play apparatus that combines the speed and fun of video games with the explosive movement of aerobic exercise. The system will create physically challenging and exciting activities, comparable to jogging or playing soccer, raising heart rates by an average of 20 percent. As players of all ages race each other and the clock, they will develop agility, coordination, strength and stamina, at the same time building teamwork and cooperation skills.

The old playground at Oakton is scheduled for removal on Saturday, November 7, with the entire Oakton project set for completion by late spring of 2010.

Oakton Park is located at 4701 Oakton St. The playground is located just southeast of the Oakton Community Center.
